MEET YOUR CLINICIAN
Hi, I'm Cam. I'm a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Consultant with almost 2 decades of nursing experience, from busy emergency departments to my current role as a nurse consultant in community health.
I also spent 5 years nursing in the Emergency Department at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, caring for people with urgent ear and eye problems every day. That experience taught me how to look after ears carefully, explain what I see clearly, and know when something needs a doctor's review.
I started Hume Ear Care so families in Beveridge and neighbouring suburbs don't have to drive into the city or wait weeks for an appointment. Every visit is with me, one-on-one, from start to finish.
WHY MICRO-SUCTION
The ear canal is viewed under magnification and bright light throughout.
Gentle suction instead of syringing, so it can suit people told to keep water out of their ears.
Most appointments take 20–30 minutes. Very hard wax may need softening and a short return visit.
You can see your ear canal on screen and get simple advice on caring for your ears.

YOUR VISIT
We go through a few questions about your ears and health, then look in both ears.
If needed, a cerumenolytic (wax-softening) agent is applied during your visit to loosen the wax before removal.
Wax is removed with fine suction while you sit or lie back. Firm wax may be gently lifted out by mechanical removal, using fine instruments such as a curette. Suction can sound loud, and you can ask to pause anytime.
You get tips to keep ears healthy, and a GP letter if anything needs a doctor's review.

FAQS
Ear wax usually clears on its own and doesn't need removing. When it builds up, blocks the ear canal or causes discomfort, removal can help. The best method depends on your ear and the type of wax, so I'll check your ears first and recommend the most suitable option at your appointment.
Water- or oil-based drops that soften and loosen wax. They're usually the first thing to try, and they make removal easier if you still need it. You can buy them from most pharmacies.
Wax is gently lifted out under direct vision with fine instruments, such as a curette (a small, smooth scoop) or delicate forceps. It's useful for firm wax, flakes or small objects that suction alone can't remove.
I wear illuminated magnifying glasses to see clearly inside your ear the whole time, while a gentle suction tip removes the wax. No water is used, unlike syringing, which lowers the chance of irritation and infection.
Most people find it comfortable. The suction is noisy, and some people feel a cool sensation or brief dizziness. Softening the wax first makes it easier.
No. You can book directly. If I see anything that needs a doctor's review, I'll let you know and can send a letter to your GP.
You don't need to do anything beforehand. I'll check your ears first and, if needed, soften the wax during your visit. If you've been told you have a hole in your eardrum or have had ear surgery, let me know when booking.
Please call before booking for a child, so I can check the appointment suits them. A parent or guardian stays with children throughout.
Yes. Hearing aids can trap wax in the ear canal. Bring your aids with you, and book before any hearing test or fitting.
Routine ear wax removal isn't covered by Medicare. Some private health extras policies may contribute, so check with your fund before your visit.
